Puzzle Feature #3

It's been a while since I showed you some thrifted (and completed) puzzles!

A while back we picked up a box full of assorted animal puzzles. Here's the first bunch that we completed.

This one took a whiiiile. We usually stick to 500 pieces, but this one was 1000.

Puzzle Feature #2

Time to show you some more puzzles!

This one comes from the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store. We ended up keeping this one after putting it together - look how fun and colorful it is! Plus it's really clear. All of these things make for a great puzzle.

Every now and then we pick up a little palette-cleanser puzzle. One that's really easy and small, usually a cute animal. I think this might be the only one I actually took a photo of, so you won't be seeing a lot of those. They're basically morale boosters, to keep us motivated after a bunch of harder puzzles. As you can see in the background, the next puzzle is all ready to be spread out.

This one was also really fun! We did the edges and Ed put some of the purple pattern together, and then I remember I finished the rest of it in one sitting. It was hard to take my eyes off this one, like a book you can't put down. The image is really cool and there's a lot going on. This one and the kitten one from above also come from the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store (it's our usual spot to check out puzzles).

Puzzle Feature #1

We're always on the lookout for puzzles. I grew up a big puzzle fan. I remember my grandmother teaching us about separating the edges and even separating colors. No wonder I'm so OCD about them when putting them together. (Okay, I'm not THAT bad... but I do need to do edges first, and after that I need to put all the rest of the pieces out on the table, face up and no overlapping unless I run out of space.)

Anyway, back on topic - thrift stores almost always have puzzles and games together, which we always check out. 

 Parrots - nice and colorful.

Nature scenes are usually a bit tougher. This one wasn't horrible, but the trees in the closer mountain were tricky.

This was harder than it looks. Those windows were brutal. Plus I think this was a thousand-piecer. We like to stick to around 500.

If we really liked the puzzle/it wasn't too hard, we'll hold on to it. Usually though, we give them right back to the thrift store for someone else to enjoy.

$2 Box

On our way to our 4th and 5th destinations on Saturday, Ed spotted a church community yard sale in a field off the highway. We made a detour and headed straight for it (obviously). As we walked closer to the crowd of people and junk, a volunteer told us that we could fill a box, any size box, for $5. Needless to say, we grabbed the biggest/sturdiest box we could find and got to pickin'. (And boy, was it hot out.)

As you can see, it was the end of the sale, and everything was strewn about. We were literally looking through piles of stuff. Lots of things were broken - it was basically all the leftovers from the day.

So what's in the box?

A thousand piece puzzle, a pack of 10 animal puzzles, two books (Bad Idea and The Templar Salvation), a wooden bowl, two plates, John Denver's Greatest Hits, three rectangle photo frames, and one oval photo frame.

And when we got in line to pay, they only charged us $2. Score!
