A Ship, A Deer, And A Mustached Man

Here are a few things from my wall that I put together for no particular reason (other than I liked how they looked as a group).

That mustached man was the one thing missing that I pointed out from this post.

I picked up this little guy from a community church yard sale a few years ago. I just thought he was so silly with that hair/mustache/hat! I kept him in storage until we had moved into our place in CA, and then I found he fit in quite perfectly with the collection on my wall. Thankfully he didn't break when he took a tumble!

This deer comes from the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Just a random trip I took one day and I stumbled across it in the very sparse photo/wall decoration section. The stickers peeled a bit of the paper off, but that adds to the second-hand nature. (Why do they always put stickers ON photos rather than on the backs??)

I got this ship at a yard sale - out of a box of photo frames and the like. I grabbed some frames as well (featured in this post). They were all a quarter each. Definite score.

My Wall

Now that I'm getting back into the swing of things, I'll give you a bit of an update. Over the past month, my fiancé and I (yes, fiancé!) have been moving everything from our apartment into storage, and subsequently going our separate ways. He is now deployed, and I'm back in Pennsylvania spending time with family and friends. While we were packing up our things, I did as many little photo shoots for this blog as I could, so I could continue updating over the next few months. I didn't expect to be abandoning it completely for the past month, but hey we've been busy!

So, no worries, I haven't given up! Be ready for more regular updates from me again :)

Now, let me introduce you to my wall.

There's actually one small empty space by the top right of the owl clock - what was there had fallen about two days before I took this photo. This is the work in progress that I'm positive I will always be looking to add new things to. As you can see, I've just added things as I found them. The theme is open to anything that matches, really. I just love the idea of covering a wall like this - and it only started with maybe about 4 little square decorations (and has grown into this!). Unfortunately since we moved, I took everything down from this wall. As soon as we get set up in our next place, you better believe I'll be starting all over again - most likely rearranging how I see fit (well how WE see fit, I am so indecisive I can never hang things alone).

Of course there are a few things hanging up here that you have seen before on the blog, and some things I haven't written about yet. You'll be seeing those in the near future!

Thank you to my loyal readers!! :)

Thrifted Birthday Gifts

It was recently my birthday (June 29th) and Ed got me a few gifts from the antique store!

He knew I had been eyeing them up during a previous visit, so he went back the next day to purchase them (he told me after I opened them of course). Funny thing is, I knew that these items were gone, but never suspected he bought them! We were back in the store at some point between that visit and my birthday and I looked to see if they were still there (they weren't obviously).

This key - key holder (haha) is pretty hefty and made out of metal.

This mirror resembles a cameo, which is what I love about it. Also, it's super unique! I've never seen one like this before. And you might notice, in that first shot I'm wearing the bandana from this post :)

Another key! I suppose this one could hold jackets/hats since the hooks are larger. I had been looking at both of them and at the time didn't know which one I would want, so Ed got me both. No complaints here!

After I took all these photos, I can now only see this smiling face when I look at this key! (I always find faces in things, is that strange?)

All three items come from the Route 65 Trading Post in Lincoln.

Recent Finds

Here are some items I recently picked up!

I found this magnet at Goodwill. We haven't been to Lassen yet, but it's on our to-do list! Since we found a souvenir for a better price at the thrift store, we figured why not get it now? It's a cool, cut-out-slab-of-wood magnet!

This glass also comes from Goodwill (same trip). I know I mentioned before how much I love sets of glasses - here's my first success in only buying one from the set (it helped that all of them were exactly the same - when they match but are slightly different, it's harder to pass up). Anyway, I love this owl!

This bandana is actually cut in half, but I don't really care. It was a good price (for half a bandana) and I love the color. I might wear it, or I might use it for decoration - haven't decided yet! (This comes from the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store.)

I just picked up a little something yesterday in Reno, but I already had this post ready to go, so you'll see that in the near future.

Veggies

As you will soon see, I love things that can be hung up on the wall. Add a good price, a vintage look, and a cute subject matter, and I'm sold!

Cue these adorable wooden veggies!

It was half off everything day at the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store, which is always dangerous for us (meaning we want to buy everything), so these were an obvious, no-hesitation purchase. Even the cashier who rang me up made a comment about them.

They're definitely on my list of favorites. (Okay it's a really big list.) But they're so cool! I gushed over them the rest of the day. Thank you to whoever donated these!

Mugs Part 1

Yet another kitchen item I love finding at yard sales and thrift stores: mugs. There are SO MANY designs to fall in love with!

I'm splitting my mugs into a few posts so I can focus on each one - here are three to start.

This Pennsylvania Dutch hex sign mug is definitely on the top of my list. It's a good size, it's sturdy, and it's hex signs! I have a collection of actual hex signs hanging on the wall (I'll get to that in another post), so finding a mug with a bunch of hex signs/folk art on it made me so happy. I can't remember if I personally found this one or my friend Catie did, but I'm pretty certain it came from the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Rainbows are colorful and awesome, that's all there is to it. I found this one at the Volunteers of America thrift store in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

I found this mug at the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I'm a sucker for German things and it's super cute!

I drink a lot of tea (and the occasional coffee), so I go through these mugs quite quickly! More to come in future posts!

Puzzle Feature #2

Time to show you some more puzzles!

This one comes from the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store. We ended up keeping this one after putting it together - look how fun and colorful it is! Plus it's really clear. All of these things make for a great puzzle.

Every now and then we pick up a little palette-cleanser puzzle. One that's really easy and small, usually a cute animal. I think this might be the only one I actually took a photo of, so you won't be seeing a lot of those. They're basically morale boosters, to keep us motivated after a bunch of harder puzzles. As you can see in the background, the next puzzle is all ready to be spread out.

This one was also really fun! We did the edges and Ed put some of the purple pattern together, and then I remember I finished the rest of it in one sitting. It was hard to take my eyes off this one, like a book you can't put down. The image is really cool and there's a lot going on. This one and the kitten one from above also come from the Roseville Hospice Thrift Store (it's our usual spot to check out puzzles).
